This is an exciting new year for us as the Lord has
given us favor with people in every level of society. From the Mayor, city
council, police, social services dept, school principles and teachers, and
citizens in general we are being cheered on to expand the work that is
“really making a difference.”
When we look at the task that is before us we know it far beyond our
personal ability to accomplish. First of all it is the Lord’s work and He
has promised to supply our needs. Just considering all the suffering and
needs in Medgidia alone is exhausting. We are soliciting the help of
others who for the love of Christ want to reciprocate His love by
demonstrating it in a very practical way.
Following are the present needs:
(1) Monthly support for three full time workers. Two of these individuals
have been working with us on a part time volunteer basis. The third is
willing to move here from the Oradea area and has numerous years of
experience working with children. 3 X $300.00 Can. per month = $900.00
(2) Casa Alba ground floor project. Four rooms which are being renovated
and prepared for classes, clinic, counseling room and lice treatment. The
items still needed for this project are. 2 exterior doors with glass. (No
other window in room and corridor.) 1 exterior window, complete tiling of
washroom and shower area. Shower door and two other interior doors for
storage area. Insulation for walls, electrical wiring, water heater,
lighting, heating, and furniture. Total costs estimated $5,500.00
(3) Ali Baba Community Center, situated right in the middle of the
predominantly Muslim and Gypsy area of Medgidia. This building and
property is being offered to us by City hall to expand our ministry to the
poverty stricken children and families. We have already started to help
some of the children who go to the elementary school right across the
street. This center will help prepare children for school in various ways.
Alphabetization classes, tutoring, clothing, food, a safe place to play
and interact. A youth drop in center, and we will also have to operate our
clothing ministry there till the Lord provides space elsewhere. Our hopes
are to put a second floor on this building to provide the space we need.
This project will move ahead in phases as there is also an outdoor area to
develop into supervised play ground and possibly build a clinic. First
phase is estimated at $55,000.00
(4) Shipping cost for container of clothes the Hutterites have prepared.
This ministry has opened doors to hundreds of homes. We have been quoted
$3500.00 US.
(5) There are ongoing utility expenses at all points presently operating
and those mentioned above. If this is something you will consider then we
will get those numbers to you.
Thank you so much for your willingness to partner with us, your
contribution from Canada is just as important as ours is here.
Yours in the Ghetto
